FXStreet (London) - It has been reported that former French president Nicolas Sarkozy was arrested this morning as part of an ongoing police investigation into corruption.

The move follows the arrest yesterday of his lawyer Thierry Herzog as well as magistrates Patrick Sassoust and Gilbert Azibert on suspicion of “influence peddling” – interference in the judicial process – as well as breaches of confidentiality agreements.

According to French newspaper Le Monde, Herzog was taken to the police station at Nanterre yesterday morning, while Gilbert Azibert was arrested at his home in Bordeaux.

It is reported that Sarkozy was arrested and taken to the police station at Nanterre shortly before 7 GMT.
