US health official Fauci: No guarantee US will have safe and effective vaccine for COVID-19

There is no guarantee that the US will have a safe and effective vaccine for COVID-19," Dr Anthony Fauci, director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said during a Senate hearing on Tuesday.

"Data on vaccine effectiveness may be available sometime in winter or early part of next year," Fauci added.

Market reaction

The US Dollar Index edged lower in the last minutes and was last seen posting small daily losses at 97.45. However, this move seems to be caused by month-end flows into London fix rather than Fauci comments.
