US Retail Sales to come in stronger, rates lift-off in September – Danske Bank
FXStreet (Edinburgh) - Sverre Holbek, Senior Analyst at Danske Bank, believes a strong retail sales number today could boost further the USD, paving the way for a rates hike in September.
Key Quotes
“With respect to the dollar the release of the US retail sales in the afternoon will be important”.
“After the last months’ disappointing releases we expect a strong rebound in today’s figure to fuel further speculations that the Fed will hike rates this year”.
“Our key argument for a stronger USD is monetary policy divergence and historically the rate support to the ‘greenback’ has been the most dominant in the months leading up to the first Fed hike”.
“We expect Fed lift-off in September and should our call for a strong retail sales figure today materialise this will add further demand for the ‘greenback’.
